Warner Music Taiwan is offering Asian pop princess Jolin Tsai NT$100 million (S$4.5 million) to renew her contract with them and shut out Jay Chou's JVR music label, which was rumoured to be interested in signing Tsai, said Taiwan media reports. Chou, Tsai's former squeeze, had expressed his interest in signing Tsai in 2007 but the singer picked Warner instead.
However, when Tsai's 'bowling date' with Chou was exposed in January this year, many believed it signalled that Tsai had friendly ties with Chou and sparked speculation that she may sign with JVR.
JVR's experience in working with superstars like Jerry Yan was also seen as a threat to Warner's plan to renew Tsai's contract, which is rumoured to expire after her new album is released in July this year.
Warner was reportedly getting worried and decided to offer Tsai more cash to keep her with the label.
"We will complete the procedures to renew Jolin Tsai's contract with Warner by the end of March," said the company's CEO Sam Chen, adding that they would remind Tsai to repay the kindness they have shown her.
In sharp contrast to Warner's bold statements, Tsai's manager gave much more subdued comments.
"Warner gave us very good terms. We are considering them," said her manager.
JVR on the other hand, simply said that while "Jolin Tsai is an outstanding artiste", they "had not contacted" her at all and "could not comment" on the matter as they are "unclear about her contract situation".

I can say nothing but how cool the news is. However, no matter which one our princess finally decide to join in, I'll still support her forever!
